What I Do

art.

I am a portrait painter who has exhibited in Emsworth and Chichester, and have sold paintings on commission. I have branched out to experiment with colour and shapes with my 'Inspirational and Abstract Art' in oils, acrylic and water colour.  My initial drawings are done with felt tip on glossy photo paper to create a vibrant effect, and then I will use these as inspiration for larger works on canvas, which are not exact copies.

I work mainly on commission, but have exhibited and sold paintings at Oxmarket, Chichester over the past few years and have participated in the Emsworth Arts Trail.  I have painted all my life; I gained my degree in Related Arts and Music from Chichester University in 1990. I have a strong musical theme running through much of my abstract art.

music.

I taught myself Piano up to the age of 7, then had lessons for a year and then taught myself from the basic technical information absorbed, to the age of 11 - and then after finding a good teacher, I progressed from there. I played in concert at school and in examinations - but after leaving school and working for five years I took up the piano again and started working towards LRAM.

The shock, as an adult, of returning to performing in public was horrific, bearing in mind how natural I had been previously. From this experience, I vowed to overcome this issue and at the same time help and inspire others to do the same.

I went to University in Chichester - then known as WSIHE (West Sussex Institute of Higher Education) - and once I gained my degree in Music and Related Arts  (which was the only degree on offer then that related to Music), I embarked on a Community Programme to facilitate others to overcome performance nerves and to gain confidence generally.

teaching.

I am available for one-to-one lessons in Music (my instruments are Voice and Piano), and one-to-one or group lessons/workshops in Art. Please contact me to get in touch.

I run a development singing group separately - for those who wish to learn in a group setting - and as part of a larger performing arts initiative, and new members are always welcome (we meet in Emsworth in Hampshire).

commissions.

I am available for art commissions; please contact me for a quote.
